From 68 to 4,145 organic clicks in seven months

Valutazione Orologi — the business of Angelo Montanari, a luxury watch dealer with a shop in Gambettola, Italy — started online as valutazione-rolex.it: a niche where the audience spots a technical mistake in three seconds, and a site stuck at a few dozen visits a month. This is the whole project: the method, the Google Search Console numbers, and the two things that didn't work.

The starting point

A stalled site in a tough niche

Angelo has been buying and selling pre-owned luxury watches for over twenty years. His audience is collectors and people who have inherited something valuable: either way, people who check. In early 2026 the site hovered between 68 and 73 organic clicks per 28-day block, with an average position of 12.8 — page two, where nobody goes.

The first lesson

The most-searched keywords wasted our time

Instinct says: go after the highest-volume searches. We wrote dozens of articles on the most famous models in the industry, the ones with tens of thousands of searches a month. Every one of them landed between ninth and thirteenth position, and stayed there.

Plenty of visibility, zero visits

  • rolex batman

    5,495 impressions · 4 clicks · position 11.7

  • daytona panda

    4,957 impressions · 6 clicks · position 10.0

  • rolex milgauss

    4,593 impressions · 11 clicks · position 11.5

  • rolex pepsi

    2,874 impressions · 2 clicks · position 12.5

Few searches, lots of visits

  • verifica seriale rolex (Rolex serial number check)

    position 2.1 · CTR 19.7% · 124 clicks

  • rolex da investimento 2026 (Rolex as an investment 2026)

    position 4.4 · CTR 8.9% · 37 clicks

  • costo revisione rolex (Rolex service cost)

    position 2.8 · CTR 7.1% · 24 clicks

  • revisione rolex costo (Rolex service cost)

    position 3.7 · CTR 4.4% · 23 clicks

This comparison is the heart of the whole project. Below fifth position, for almost any search, click-through rate stays under 1%: thousands of people see your result and nobody clicks. In the top 5, on a specific question, it climbs to 7-20%. It isn't a slope, it's a switch — and it flips within a few positions.

How we work

A repeatable process, not a hero writer

Growth didn't come from publishing more, but from choosing better what to publish. Every step has a checkpoint, and the data comes back to correct the next one.

  1. 01

Research by intent, not by volume

Real search volumes for the Italian market, filtered with a single question: can we realistically reach the top 5 for this query? If the answer is no, the article doesn't get written.

  2. 02

    Clustering and cannibalisation checks

Every new piece is checked against the inventory of existing pages before it's written, so we never create two pages competing for the same search.

  3. 03

    Verified content, nothing made up

In a niche where readers are experts, one wrong fact burns your credibility. Reference numbers, years and technical specs come from official sources only: if a fact can't be verified, it doesn't go in.

  4. 04

    Publishing via API

Content lands in the CMS already laid out, with category, images and internal links in the right place. Manual work that used to take days became one step of the process.

  5. 05

    Search Console feedback loop

Data comes back every month and decides what to push, what to fix and what to stop writing. That's the part that makes the system sharper over time.

The process runs on a system we built in-house with Claude, connected via API to the tools of the trade: search data, Search Console and the client's CMS. That's why a method this precise stays sustainable even at high content volumes.

What didn't work

The right fix that wasn't enough

“valutazione rolex” (Rolex valuation) — the site's most commercially important search, the one that brings customers rather than readers — stayed stuck on page two for the whole project. Search Console gave us the diagnosis by crossing query and page data: the same search was landing on seven different URLs of the site, and none of them made it to the top.

The cause

Internal links contradicted each other: those pointing to the homepage used generic anchor text, those pointing to the guide contained the exact keyword. Opposite signals, and we had created them.

The fix

One single target page, anchors realigned across 89 articles, a stronger homepage. Done in July 2026.

The result

Position 16.2 in May, 15.9 in August. Four weeks after the fix, the page hadn't moved.

The lesson stuck with us: if a technical fix doesn't move anything in four to six weeks, the problem sits at a higher level. Here, the site was chasing a search it couldn't win, given how it was built. That led to the next decision.

September 2026 · open chapter

We moved the domain of a site that grew 61×

Angelo no longer deals only in Rolex: Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Cartier are now part of the business, and the old valutazione-rolex.it — built on the name of a brand the client doesn't own — had become a positioning limit and a communication constraint. On 1 September 2026 we moved everything to valutazione-orologi.it (“watch valuation”).

Technical execution

  • 116 URLs redirected one by one with permanent redirects, same path.
  • Automated testing after the switch: 116 checks passed, zero errors.
  • Old homepage kept as an ads landing page, excluded from the index.
  • Both domains monitored in Search Console throughout the move.

The bill, three weeks in

  • From ~200 clicks a day to about 30, old and new domain combined.
  • 137 pages of the new domain already showing in results within 22 days: the handover has started.
  • Rankings, though, drop during the transition: “verifica seriale rolex” from 1.4 to 4.8, “costo revisione rolex” from 2.2 to 7.6 (same two weeks, August vs September).
  • And that's exactly the switch described above: falling out of the top 5 costs far more in clicks than the positions lost.

We're writing this while it happens, with the real numbers. A domain change always has a price: redirects tell Google where to look, but trust in the new address takes weeks to rebuild. The decision was made knowing the cost and accepting it, because the limit of the old name was structural and would have stayed forever. This chapter closes with the data from the coming months, and we'll publish it here like the rest.

Takeaways

Three things that apply to any website

01

Position matters more than volume

A page in tenth position is worth almost nothing, however many searches the keyword has. Before writing, ask yourself whether you can really make the top 5.

02

Your worst competitor is your own site

When several pages cover the same thing, Google doesn't know which one to reward and rewards none. You can spot it in ten minutes by crossing query and page in Search Console.

03

In an expert niche, credibility is ranking

No made-up data, and honesty even when the reader is better served elsewhere. It's the one thing a competitor can't copy.
